Chlamydia:
Chlamydia a common STD that can infect both men and women. It can cause serious, permanent damage to a women’s reproductive system, making it difficult or impossible for her to get pregnant later on. It can also cause a potentially fatal ectopic pregnancy which is a pregnancy that occurs outside of the womb.
Gonorrhea:
Gonnorrhea is a STD that can infect both men and women. It can cause infections in the genitals, rectum, and throat. It is a very common infection, especially among young people ages 15-24 years old.
Genital Human PapillomaVirus (HPV):
HPV is the most common STI and is very different from HIV and HSV (herpes). It is so common that nearly all sexually active men and women get it at some point in their lives. There are many different types of HPV and some can cause health probelms including genital warts and cancers but there are vaccines that cna stop there health problems from happening.
Syphilis:
Syphilis is an STD that can cause long-term complications if not treated correctly. Symptoms in adults are divided into stages. These stages are primary, secondary, and late syphilis.
Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV):
HIV is a disease that destroys cells that are critical to a healthy immune system. HIV infection represents a spectrum of disease that can begin with a brief acute retroviral syndrome (which symptoms are fever, malaise, lymphadenopathy, pharyngitis and skin rash).
Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome (AIDS):
AIDS is diagnosed when HIV has weakened the immune system enough that the bosy has difficulty fighting disease and infections.
Bacterial Vaginosis:
Bacterial vaginosis is an infection caused when too much of a certain bacteria changes the normal balance of bacteria in the vagina. It is the most common vaginal infection in women ages 15-44 years old. BV is not an STD but it can increase your chances of getting an STD but you can still get it without having sex.
Genital Herpes:
Genital herpes is an STD that is caused by two types of viruses. The viruses are called herpes simplex type one and herpes simplex type two. Genital herpes is very common in the United States and about one in every six people aged 14 to 49 years old have genital herpes. There is no cure for herpes.
Trichomoniasis:
Trichomoniasis is a very common STD that is caused by infection with a protozoan parasite called trichomonasvaginalis. Although symptoms vary, most women and men cannot tell when they are infected. Trichomoniasis is considered the most common curable STD.
